Think of a fluid analysis as a blood test for your motorhome or towing vehicle. Just like a blood test, a fluid analysis will give you a snapshot of the health of your engine and or generator. Your inspector will extract a small amount of the fluid to be tested, then send it off to a lab for analysis. Your result should be available in about a week.
The inspector can test engine oil, transmission fluid and coolant on your motorhome, your towing vehicle and your towed vehicle (toad.) He can also test the hydraulic fluid on the trailer or motorhome and the oil and coolant on the generator.
Investing in a fluid analysis before you purchase a new to you rig or as part of the upkeep of existing one will have these benefits:
* It will save you money by detecting minor problems that you can fix before they become major problems. Fluid analysis allows you to know the amount of contaminants in the system and how much wear is taking place at a given time. Knowing these things and reacting to them through preventive and predictive maintenance can save you repair costs and possibly prevent breakdown and an expensive tow.
* It can determine the remaining useful life of the oil or coolant so you save money by safely extend your fluid change intervals. Keeping your equipment properly lubricated extends equipment life.
* It can increase your resale value by proving to a prospective purchaser that you have maintained your vehicle properly. Having a history of oil and coolant analysis showing a clean and wear free system reduces risk to your buyer.
* It can help you with your warranty. If you need to make a warranty claim, you will be able to easily prove that you have properly cared for that engine or transmission.

Fluid analysis is a valuable service we highly recommend to our clients. A lab analysis of these fluids you will receive a detailed report showing you viscosity and contamination such as suspended metals. If the lab finds metal shavings, you definitely want to take that engine to a mechanic. Your RV inspector can also check engine oil and coolant, transmission fluid, generator oil and coolant and the hydraulic fluid.
Fluid analysis can be included with an RV inspection.
